Sickness

My poor boys have gotten pretty sick at least twice this year. And within the last few months. It seems to hit Chase the worst. After the Sesame Street Live show. When we got home, Chase went straight to the couch...Then I noticed he had a fever. Poor kid.

After several days of a fever, coughing and a sore throat, he slept until almost noon one day and I decided I'd better take him in. They tested him for strep throat. His oxygen level was a little low, so they put him on this machine for about 12 mins or so. It didn't change anything. So they were worried about possible pneumonia at that point and we went and got him x-rayed. No pneumonia. Thank goodness. Poor kid. At this point, there wasn't much they could do for him. So we just had to wait it out. Lots of vitamins, humidifiers and vicks for him.

Almost four weeks ago, Chase started to get sick again. Just started with a yucky cough and small fever. Kyler got it for about a week or so, but his went away quickly. Poor Chase had a sore throat for almost three weeks and just within a few days has gotten rid of his nasty cough. Chase would get to the point where he would cough so hard he gagged and threw up. It was an odd sickness this time. They both were fine and feeling great in the morning, with little to no fever, then the afternoon hit and the fever went up and the coughing got worse. Chase actually napped everyday for about two weeks! Which he never does anymore. And the fevers never got over 100° for the most part. There was one day Chase had a 101.8° fever, but it didn't last long. Poor kids. :o( Oh and they both caught pink eye...which is a first for us. I took them into Urgent Care to get eye drops and it cleared up within four to five days.

After about two weeks of this, I finally took Chase in again and got him some antibiotics. I normally don't like putting them on antibiotics, cause I like for their bodies to fight it off so it builds their immune system. But I think the cough was going on for longer than it should. He wasn't completely well, by the time he was done with the prescription, but I think it finally helped his body fight off the infection. I felt totally helpless and at the same time felt that I was being neglectful. Luckily we all seem to have overcome it. (I caught a bit of it too. Mostly just a fun cough for me).
